Ciao,my name is Maurizio Gandolfi, and if you’ve stayed with us before I’m sure we have already met, maybe talking about bike riding, my great love, or just discussing the sights and beauty of Bormio. I’d like to tell you something about myself and life at the Hotel Rezia.
The Hotel Rezia has belonged to my family for generations, these days I manage it with my wife Renata, whilst all of my children maintain close ties with the hotel and help me come up with new ideas and initiatives. Alongside us, we have a team of loyal staff who are always enthusiastic. The first thing to tell you is that I am proud of what the Hotel Rezia has become and of the people who work here, and I’m sure that when you visit you will receive a warm welcome and have an enjoyable stay.
For me the hotel has always come first. Even when I met my wife Renata nothing changed! We began running the hotel together and it became her passion too. We have five children, all of whom are a bit jealous that the hotel comes first!
What is my main aim?
To welcome everyone as if they were part of my own family. For this reason, every time a guest arrives at the hotel, I try to make them feel at home. This helps them to relax and enjoy themselves and, as a hotel owner, there is nothing more satisfying.
But I want my hotel to also be a starting point for my guests. I like to tell them all about Bormio and my memories of the town, a place where you can enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities at any time of the year. Of course in winter skiing dominates, whilst in summer it goes without saying that the famous Stelvio pass is the holy grail for cyclists.
But there’s more: Bormio and the surrounding mountains offer a wealth of opportunities for a really special Alpine holiday, surrounded by nature. For example, in summer I would always recommend a walk in the Val Viola.
It’s a place I’m really fond of, because my grandparents used to take there when I was little. I spent many a happy day up there on the Alpine Meadows, creating memories which I treasure and relive every time I wander through those woods. Nowadays, if you are a keen mountain biker, you can even ride through the Val Viola.
But Bormio is so much more, we have a strong Alpine identity, which may be a bit hidden but when you come here you will definitely feel and experience it. We may be reserved mountain people but we love to share these mountains with you.
I look forward to seeing you, perhaps we can set the world to rights over a plate of pizzoccheri, our local speciality, and a good glass of Valtellina red wine.
See you soon, Maurizio
